Road Quality Monitoring through Smart Phones and Crowdsourcing

This application is being developed collaboratively by two universities: Chicago State University and Illinois State University. Through this application, we can assess road conditions to determine whether they are damaged or not. I am the sole contributor from our university, responsible for developing a mobile application designed for iOS devices. The application collects data via phone sensors and transmits information to a centralized database while continuously driving on the road, gathering details on various features such as acceleration, speed, and location.

Future Enhancement: My other contributor is exploring machine learning to predict road deterioration using vibration data collected from vehicles. We plan to use the results of our work in this project to apply for a larger grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation and/or the National Science Foundation.
